Excerpt from "Tastes of Our Town The Cedar Grill " from SNAP NEWMARKET

"My first experience at the Cedar Grill occurred during the summer for my mother’s birthday dinner. After sitting down to eat, I excused myself, and had a quick word with the waitress, explaining that it was my mother’s birthday and asked if it would be possible for them to do something special (not expecting much, assuming some singing would be involved and perhaps a piece of Baklawa with a candle). Imagine my surprise when, at the end of the meal, the waitress brought over a cake with candles, and the staff sung ‘Happy Birthday’. We then found out that, during our dinner, an employee had gone to the grocery store to buy the cake. When I found out that I would be doing the restaurant review for this month, the first place I suggested was The Cedar Grill, knowing that I would be greeted with delicious food, a comfortable atmosphere and the hospitality that I had received in the summer. In fact, when I arrived at The Cedar Grill and met with the owner, George Dabit, he remembered meeting me and pointed to the side of the fridge where a long, white letter was taped: the thank you note my mother had written to the staff of Cedar Grill. The Cedar Grill opened in Mid May of 2007 and is credited with being the first authentic Lebanese restaurant in this area. With 80% of the products being imported directly from Lebanon, customers can be assured that the food they are eating is rich with the heart and soul of the Mediterranean. George speaks with pride as he describes the foods and spices he uses that cannot be found in Canada, and explains the idea behind his open concept kitchen: Customers can see what they are getting; they can see that everything is fresh, and, if they have questions, ask them....Being a vegan (no meat, egg or milk products), I usually have difficulty finding a restaurant that can accommodate my dietary needs, but at The Cedar Grill, vegans and vegetarians alike will find plenty of delicious options on the menu. "A new place named Cedar Grill just opened up in Newmarket in the Weston Foods plaza. My wife and I, always interested in a food we've never had couldn't wait to try. So we went in, sat near the grill so we could see what was going on. Looked at the menu, not a lot of selection but in a good way. Keep it simple and not overwhelming. So definitely a plus. Not have had much in the way of Lebanese, I asked the waitress and the cook/owner(?) George. He said, I'll look after you. So he started sending some stuff over to us. Hummus with incredible olive oil, hot sauce and lamb/beef kabob with pita for dipping. Stuffed grape leaves. Tabbouleh. Cheese pies. He asked how we like it. With goop all over our smiling faces we eagerly nodded. He said he'd make us sandwiches to top it off. So we got two chicken kabob "sandwiches." Chicken kabob, hot sauce, onion, tomato and garlic sauce on a pita. We topped with a baklava and washed it down with a couple of drinks. We were so full yet not in a yucky, gross way though. The whole thing was just excellent. Total price. $30.
We will be going back. And often."

I recommend the Cedar Grill. I have sampled Lebanese food all over Toronto, and this is incredibly good quality.
